Roof air conditioner units are PURE JUNK !!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Bought a new rv in 2015 from Forest River RV. Air conditioner went bad after 2 years of very little use.Replaced by dealer with new unit at my cost. That one lasted 1 year.Dometic refuses to do anything about these units, which are VERY common problems for MANY consumers in our area of Wisconsin. Is there any kind of legal action going on with this problem ?? Some one needs to be responsible !! Jim Raymond Centuria,Wi. 715-646-****

New dometic fridge broken after 1 month

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Dealership put a brand new dometic fridge in our brand new truck camper and it failed after only 3 camping trips. Now they are making it incredibly hard for the repair shop to fix it under warranty. Such a scam company!

I had the same problem. Broken refrigerator that was still under warranty but could not get anyone to work on it. Dometic customer services told me to take it to 4 different places that all said they do not work on Dometic refrigerators.

R V Air Conditioner

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased the ACs in 2016. They had a 2 year warranty. They never worked right, except on the first trip home. I had the installer look at it every 6 months, or so, in fact 2 looked at it last year. Finally I am told there is no Coolant in it. The first installer called Dometic a couple times while I was in his shop, and I did too, but they have no record of that, and only have record of 1 of my 3 Air Conditioners, even though I registered them all. One works. I bought 2 very expensive boat anchors. I will do my very best to never never never purchase from them again. Anyone want a boat anchor, cheap?

I have a 2004 Trailite by R-Vision with a 12,000 BTU Dometic A/C with the dials on the ceiling unit. Still works fine today.

I have a 2018 Jayco with a 15,000 BTU Dometic A/C with on of the capacitive thermostats. Don't like the thermostats, but that's for another day. I just had our local Jayco dealer replace the entire upper unit of the A/C with a month left of the 2 year Jayco warranty. We had only camped maybe 20-25 days, if that, in that 2 year period.

Only warranty of the replacement was the 1 month I had left on the 2 year Jayco warranty. While I was waiting for the dealer to replace the A/C I walked around the back of there shop and saw a pile of these Dometic A/C's just like mine. Apparently the freon had leaked out of mine, even though there was no evidence of a leak.

I asked the repair man what it would cost me to replace the replacement unit when it we bad and he said about a $1,000. I'm not pleased.

Units loose refrigerant charge. 2 bad units on a 2015 unit. 1 replaced under 1 year warranty. 2nd unit died 7 months after 2 year warranty. Dometic will not do ANYTHING about it. I asked what has been done to recitify this problem? NOTHING now I will buy a Norcold a/c unit and stat. Camping world has replaced a lot of Dometic units not many Norcold.

Not Happy With Fantastic Fan

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Purchased and installed a new Model 7350 Fantastic Fan that has a rain sensor. The fan would shut if it rained, but would never reopen. My previous one in my old RV reopened once the sensor dried. Contacted Dometic support (45 min wait) and they sent me an upgrade kit to fix the problem. Installed it and same problem. Called support again (45 min wait) they told me this new model doesn't reopen. It's stated right on their website for that model that it does. Spent $300 on and fan that doesn't work as advertised. Can't return it because it's a major job to remove from the roof......... After fighting with them they are sending a vent cover to remedy the problem.

Design flaw

Dometic - Design flaw
The fabric is pulling apart where the LED lights are attached. I was told that the cord had shrunk and Dometic told me it was an install issue. I have been back and forth for a year with Dometic and Keystone. No one wants to be accountable. Have a new tech in the area and it was pointed out that the material is detaching from the lights. I will have to pay for my own fabric, to have it removed and replaced. Extended warranties don't cover squat. Would rather not use my own insurance.

AC not cooling

I have a 2018 Heritage Glenn Rv . The AC worked somewhat the forst 10 months I had it. Recently has a certified RV mechanic check it. He says it should be replaced, cooling temps should be 18 to 20 degrees cooler that outside air, mine is not. Dometic says it is within specs. What are the cooling specs for a 15000 btu AC?

The RV repair shop I'm working with called Dometic tech service and what the guy from Dometic told the repair guy was stupid. In the mean time I have a $55,000 RV with a Hvac system that doesn't work.

Furnace Destroyed By Dometic Door Design Flaw - Image 2

I received the check as promised.

Updated by user Oct 29, 2018

Today, Dometic made good on their offer; I received the check as promised. I will therefore mark this complaint as favorably resolved.

Thank you, Ms. Schutz.

Updated by user Oct 19, 2018

On 10/1/18, I was contacted by Judy Schutz, Director of Customer Service. After some emailed discussion, Ms. Schutz admitted that the installation did not block water from draining from the compartment, and that there another reason for the compartment flooding and...

Quick update: Not much happening. Dometic is vehemently insisting they are not at fault.

They insist the door is designed to admit water, and that there are weep holes to let it drain out.

Our new furnace has them; the old one did not. The old furnace installation...

Original review Sep 13, 2018
The furnace was part of my 2015 Thor ACE 27.1. This model had an issue with the outside access door to the furnace. The ventilation louvers on the door were designed to be upside down and inside out. This caused the louvers to act as “scoops”, funneling rain water directly into the furnace compartment.
The furnace was damaged beyond repair due to immersion caused by the door design flaw. The control circuit board spent some unknown time under water, the electric fan was rusted and short circuited, and the burner and other components were \irreparably rusted. The only option was to replace it, at a cost of $1736.28.
This problem is known by Dometic. My research indicates Dometic moved from the louvered furnace doors to non-louvered ones, and relocated the circuit board to keep it out of water, somewhere around mid-2016, to alleviate this problem.
Warranty Manager Kristin (no last name) has repeatedly insisted that the door "is designed to take in water. There are weep holes in the furnace door and bezel to allow this water to weep out. This is not a defect in the furnace it is a door and bezel installation issue." My RV mechanic and I have examined the new furnace, and do find weep holes. The control board has also been relocated, as you stated. We also inspected the original furnace. It has no weep holes, and contained any and all water that entered.
I noted several references in the original furnace installation manual stressing the need for a water tight installation of the door bezel to prevent water from entering the coach and to apply an RTV type sealant to prevent water intrusion. The old furnace manual also makes no mention of weep holes.
Warranty Manager Kristin (no last name) continues to insist that they, the manufacturer of the furnace and access door, is not at fault.
